lyrics

Take off your mask of compassion, I’ve had it with it
You ain’t a saint just because you want to tax the rich
You don’t get the moral high ground, just because you want to spend
Someone else’s money for somebody else’s benefit

Some ideas, are so silly
Only intellectuals could believe them really (1)
Who needs a class in statistics
When you can just tax the rich, that’ll fix it!

You say they’re all greedy
And all made their cash off the backs of the needy
Which puts you in a perfect position to pit them
As oppressors exploiting their victims

So now you can justify your robbing spree
Believing that we’re living in a zero-sum economy
You say the money has to come from somewhere
The rich just horde it all so horrible unfair

Raise taxes? Well how will that help ya
When the rich stick their money in a fucking tax shelter?
Look at you, so smart after all
Instead of some tax you get no tax at all

Take off your mask of compassion, I’ve had it with it
You ain’t a saint just because you want to tax the rich
You don’t get the moral high ground, just because you want to spend
Someone else’s money for somebody else’s benefit

Do you want high taxes? Or high revenue?
Take a look at the 20’s for a better clue
After tax cuts, the cash sweltered
Since the rich could make more money investing outside of tax shelters

Which means more taxable income
Coolidge, JFK, Reagan, Bush pick one
They took the tax rate and lessened it
Putting more revenue in the government’s collection bin

So do you really care about people
Or your incessant need to make everything “equal”?
You care about the poor and impoverished
Only so long as they don’t make no progress

Here’s the point in a JFK quote
“A rising tide lifts all boats”
The cure for poverty isn’t to sink the bigger ships
But raising water levels so that everyone can benefit

Take off your mask of compassion, I’ve had it with it
You ain’t a saint just because you want to tax the rich
You don’t get the moral high ground, just because you want to spend
Someone else’s money for somebody else’s benefit
