lyrics

Why be happy? When you can be sad
Screw getting better. You shouldn’t be glad
Stop trying to be happy. Just aim for the opposite
You can always make it worse no matter what the problem is

Stay still, become a pile of laundry
Create a room that’s draped with gloom and anything that’s daunting
Don’t let a sunny day temp you to try and run away
It’s vital you stay idle unmoving inside a tiny space

Don’t forget to screw with your sleep
Switch your bedtime by a couple hours twice a week
And vary your wake time
Sleep in late and say it’s healthy even tho you know that it ain’t right

To help screw with your sleep
It’s really crucial that you maximize your time on screen
Keep it in your hand up until you hit the hay
And put your eyes back on it as soon as you wake

Use your screen to stoke negative emotions
Feed your anger over things you know you can’t control them
The things you care about could be used to navigate
But better you did nothing and were sad about the lack of change

Why be happy? When you can be sad
Screw getting better. You shouldn’t be glad
Stop trying to be happy. Just aim for the opposite
You can always make it worse no matter what the problem is

If you’re doing it right, misery is taking hold
But part of your brain’s rebelling trying to set a goal
If you’re not careful that part of your brain may rescue you
So let me offer more sadness tactics to mess with you

Your goals must be SMART to make them happen
Which is why you have to make them dull, boring, and VAPID
Irrelevant, vague, amorphous, delayed
Make the path unclear to guarantee failure on the brain

And if your mind fights against the vapid goals that you’ve been setting
Direct your focus to pursuing happiness directly
Imagine it’s a fleeting feeling of constant bliss, that does not exist
And you’ll certainly achieve the opposite

Follow your instincts, that’s most important
The dark magnetic compass loves impulses for the short-term
So, just get started with these tactics
And you’ll easily be overcome with misery and sadness
